Eli’s East has a very sunny patio, which can be quite hot on a cloudless day.  Original plans for the planters that surround the patio included pipes into which umbrellas would be insert.  However, existing umbrella designs did not provide the right angle of shade to help much.  So, we settled on this design for maximum shade.  These 2” diameter 1/4 wall aluminum tubes were rolled by Atta-boy of Minneapolis, and I fabricated the rest in my studio.  Awnings were sewn by Clare.
